چکیده

In this paper we introduce a new method for non-rigid voxelbased registration. In many medical applications there is a need to establish an alignment between two image datasets. Often a registration of a time-shifted medical image sequence with appearing deformation of soft tissue (e.g. preand intraoperative data) has to be conducted. Soft tissue deformations are usually highly non-linear. For the handling of this phenomenon and for obtaining an optimal non-linear alignment of respective datasets we transform one of them using 3D Bézier functions, which provides some inherent smoothness as well as elasticity. In order to find the optimal transformation, many evaluations of this Bézier function are necessary. In order to make the method more efficient, graphics hardware is extensively used. We applied our non-rigid algorithm successfully to MR brain images in several clinical cases and showed its value.

A Novel Subsampling Method for 3D Multimodality Medical Image Registration Based on Mutual Information

Mutual information (MI) is a widely used similarity metric for multimodality image registration. However, it involves an extremely high computational time especially when it is applied to volume images. Moreover, its robustness is affected by existence of local maxima. The multi-resolution pyramid approaches have been proposed to speed up the registration process and increase the accuracy of th...

Accelerating 3D Non-Rigid Registration Using Graphics Hardware

There is an increasing need for real-time implementation of 3D image analysis processes, especially in the context of image-guided surgery. Among the various image analysis tasks, non-rigid image registration is particularly needed and is also computationally prohibitive. This paper presents a GPU (Graphical Processing Unit) implementation of the popular Demons algorithm using a Gaussian recurs...

GPU Accelerated Image Registration in Two and Three Dimensions

Medical image registration tasks of large volume datasets, especially in the non-rigid case, often put a heavy burden on computing resources. GPUs are a promising new approach to address computational intensive image processing tasks. We investigate recently introduced GPU hardware features that accelerate 2D and 3D rigid and nonrigid registration tasks. Our implementation is entirely GPU based.

Correction of susceptibility artifacts in diffusion tensor data using non-linear registration

Diffusion tensor imaging can be used to localize major white matter tracts within the human brain. For surgery of tumors near eloquent brain areas such as the pyramidal tract this information is of importance to achieve an optimal resection while avoiding post-operative neurological deficits. However, due to the small bandwidth of echo planar imaging, diffusion tensor images suffer from suscept...
